Ryan Remke: Vacation on the lakes

The Midwest has proven to be a great destination for tourists. The many bodies of water that the Midwest holds are attractive for family fun. There are many lake properties, and also many resorts that have rentable cabins for weeks at a time. Every summer, our family and I would take advantage of this and stay at resorts.

So if you’ve been following my blog, and getting hung up on me not focusing a lot on my mom or my sister, this is your blog. This one focuses on everyone.

So what does a typical family do at one of these resorts? I don’t know if we were typical, but I will explain our experiences. Some of our favorite activities include: fishing, swimming, tubing, knee-boarding, games, sports, tanning, mini golf, cookouts, eating at restaurants, and tube floating on the river. These were also times when I grew closer to my sister Rachel. We had a lot of fun together.

Our family hopped from place to place until we found our favorite cabin in the Chippewa Flowage in Wisconsin. The Chippewa Flowage was the place where the world record muskie was caught (aka heaven for dad). Not only that, but the cabin was secluded in a beautiful part of the lake. It was the best of both worlds for family fun and for dad who really wanted great fishing conditions.

Another tip to those vacationing in the Midwest: do your research in finding an awesome place to go! You may find a place where you’ll want to go time and time again like we found.

One thing that my dad appreciated about his mom was that she would enjoy herself on the fishing trips and not complain. The same was with my mom. While both of these ladies weren’t exactly fishing fanatics, they still had fun and let dad and the kids fish. I’m grateful for that.

In the picture below, you can see my whole family, and my dad’s mom. She came along one year to one of the resorts. This was another great thing about these vacations – inviting friends and extended family to come along. Because it is really a great time. Go see for yourself!
